Starting an IRS tax exempt organization:
If you are considering starting an IRS tax exempt organization you are in for a great deal of paperwork to complete the process. In order to qualify as a tax exempt organization you will need to register as a non-profit corporation in Minnesota, get the proper identification numbers from the IRS and the Minnesota Department of Revenue. Then do research and fill out forms that the IRS estimates would take around 98 hours to complete. The forms will need to be filled out and everything will need to be completed along with completing a checklist, if all of this is not done correctly the entire packet will be returned in order to fix any deficiencies with the applications. The entire process can take up to six months to complete and that is if things go smoothly.
