child custody, parenting time (visitation), division of assets, division of debt, and spousal maintenance
One of the most common and most preventable problems to occur during a divorce is that issues are left undecided or unresolved. In most cases the issues revolve around child custody, parenting time (visitation), division of assets, division of debt, and spousal maintenance. In an effort to save money or avoid hassle divorcing parties will represent themselves, hire a paralegal rather than an attorney or hire an attorney and fail to follow the attorney’s advice.
The immediate gratification of "just being done" with the divorce is soon followed by the realization that the parties may have to go back to court to resolve the same issues that should have been resolved in the divorce. In future blogs I will expand on the pitfalls associated with unresolved or incomplete child custody, parenting time (visitation), division of assets, division of debt, and spousal maintenance
